Tax preparation and tax planning
What kinds of tax returns does MBA Financial prepare?
MBA Financial assists individuals, families, self-employed taxpayers, and business owners with federal and applicable state tax returns. Services may include individual Form 1040 returns, Schedule C businesses, S corporations, partnerships, related owner and shareholder returns, prior-year returns, and amended returns. We first confirm the tax years, entities, states, and available records before defining the work and professional fees.
What documents should I gather before tax preparation begins?
Common documents include prior-year returns, W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, business income and expense records, bank and credit-card statements, estimated-tax payments, mortgage and property-tax information, charitable contribution records, retirement and investment statements, health-insurance forms, and IRS or state notices. Do not delay contacting us just because your records are incomplete.
What is the difference between tax preparation and tax planning?
Tax preparation reports financial activity that has already occurred and calculates the return under applicable tax law. Tax planning looks forward and may evaluate withholding, estimated payments, business structure, timing of income and expenses, deductions, credits, retirement contributions, and major personal or business decisions.
Prepare accurately. Plan before the deadline.

Tax planning should be a year-round process, especially before major events such as starting, buying, or selling a business; changing jobs; receiving a large bonus; purchasing or selling property; retiring; taking retirement distributions; selling investments; changing marital status; or experiencing a significant income change.
Can you help if my bookkeeping is behind or I am unsure about deductions and estimated taxes?
Yes. MBA Financial can help organize available records, identify missing information, prepare or review financial summaries, and determine what bookkeeping work may be required before a return can be accurately completed. For self-employed taxpayers and business owners, we may also assist with quarterly estimates, withholding reviews, recordkeeping procedures, and separating business from personal activity.
Can you review a prior return or help if something may have been missed?
Yes. MBA Financial can review prior returns and supporting records for apparent omissions, inconsistencies, carryforwards, or items requiring clarification. If an amended return or corrective filing appears appropriate, we will explain the reason, expected process, required documents, professional fees, and potential risks before proceeding.
Build a better tax year before it ends.
Bring us the facts, records, and questions you have now so we can identify the next steps.
I received an IRS or state tax notice. What should I do first?
Do not ignore the notice or assume the problem will disappear. Tax notices may contain important collection, response, or appeal deadlines. MBA Financial can review the notice, identify the tax years involved, determine what the agency says you owe, and explain available next steps.
Can MBA Financial communicate with the IRS or state taxing authority for me?
Once properly authorized and engaged, an eligible representative may obtain available account information, communicate with tax authorities, help prepare required financial documents, and represent you in pursuing an appropriate resolution. Representation begins only after the required engagement and authorization documents are completed.
Can the IRS take money from my paycheck or bank account?
The IRS may use collection tools such as wage levies, bank levies, federal tax liens, and, in limited circumstances, seizure actions when a tax debt remains unresolved and required procedures have been followed. If you received a Final Notice, levy warning, garnishment notice, or lien notice, contact MBA Financial immediately.

Schedule a confidential Tax Resolution Strategy Session.
Possibly, but not every taxpayer qualifies. An Offer in Compromise may allow an eligible taxpayer to resolve a liability for less than the full balance. The IRS generally evaluates household income, allowable living expenses, assets, equity, and future ability to pay. Other options may be safer or more appropriate, so the first step is a complete investigation.
What if I have unfiled tax returns or cannot afford to pay the balance in full?
You may still have options. Required past-due returns generally must be prepared and filed before a lasting collection resolution can be established. Depending on the circumstances, possible options may include an installment agreement, partial-payment arrangement, Offer in Compromise, penalty-relief request, temporary hardship status, or other administrative remedies.
How do I know which IRS resolution program is right for me?
The correct resolution cannot be determined solely by the amount owed. A proper analysis may require reviewing account transcripts, tax-return history, collection deadlines, filing compliance, household income, allowable living expenses, assets, equity, current payment arrangements, and future ability to pay. MBA Financial begins with investigation before resolution.
Understand the account before choosing a program.
Begin with a confidential investigation so you understand the available options, required documents, recommended strategy, and professional fees.
Is your program debt consolidation, debt settlement or bankruptcy?
MBA Financial does not automatically place every client into the same program. We begin by examining the complete financial picture and comparing strategies that may be appropriate, including budgeting, accelerated repayment, the debt snowball, the debt avalanche, consolidation, balance transfers, creditor arrangements, mortgage-acceleration strategies, or other practical alternatives.
What kinds of debt can be included in my financial review?
MBA Financial can review a household's complete debt picture, including credit cards, retail accounts, personal loans, lines of credit, medical bills, collection accounts, vehicle loans, mortgages, home-equity obligations, IRS and state tax debt, business debts, family loans, and other recurring obligations.
How can I reduce debt when minimum payments already consume most of my income?
MBA Financial begins with the three financial circles of your life: income from all available sources, necessary and discretionary monthly expenses, and every debt balance, payment, and interest rate. This analysis helps identify where money is going, which debts consume the most cash flow, which obligations are urgent, and where funds may be redirected.
Know the income. Control the budget. Conquer the debt.
Begin with a confidential review of your income, expenses, and every obligation competing for monthly cash flow.
Should I use the debt snowball or debt avalanche method?
The debt snowball generally pays smaller balances first, which may create quicker victories and build motivation. The debt avalanche generally targets the highest interest rates first and may reduce total interest expense. Neither method is automatically best for everyone, so MBA Financial evaluates balances, rates, minimum payments, available cash flow, past-due accounts, secured debts, tax obligations, and personal priorities.
Will a debt-reduction plan hurt my credit?
The answer depends on the strategy selected. Budgeting and accelerated repayment are different from deliberately missing payments, entering a settlement program, or filing bankruptcy. Certain strategies may affect credit scores, available credit, creditor activity, taxes, interest charges, and future borrowing ability. MBA Financial explains the potential costs, risks, benefits, and credit consequences before a strategy is selected.
What happens during a Debt-to-Wealth Strategy Session?
MBA Financial reviews household income, monthly living expenses, discretionary spending, debt balances, minimum payments, interest rates, past-due obligations, and financial goals. We then identify immediate priorities, compare potential repayment methods, and outline the information needed to create a personalized Debt Reduction Plan.
Your plan can begin today.
